Remote Mounting

The ballast to lamp (BTL) distance that standard metal halide ballasts and lamps can be separated is limited by the voltage drop of the wire which is determined by the wire size and length per the table below.

With pulse start metal halide and high pressure sodium ballasts, remote mounting is not recommended with standard ignitors. As the distance between the ballast and lamp increases, the lamp starting capability is reduced by the wire voltage drop and the ignitor pulse attenuation from increased stray capacitance.
